Office to Bedroom Transformation

One of the biggest changes in the Westlake Houseboat, was transforming the built-in office to a cozy bedroom for the client's daughter - that could also double as a guest room!

As beautiful and useful as the existing built-in desk was; it wasn't necessary for the client's everyday life.  By removing the built-in's we were able to better utilize the space.  Once removed, the floor plan was better suited to accommodate a full size bed, with bedside tables on either side.

We chose all white furniture to compliment the modern, clean architecture.  It allows the client to change the accent colors in the soft furnishings without having to change out the furniture.  Because the space was so modern, we wanted to soften the hardness with a combination of textures throughout the bedroom.  Laying the linen bedspread with knits, velvets and faux fur created a cozy and welcoming space.

Finally, we styled the room around some of the treasures of the client's travels.  Adding a textural wall hanging further softens the room, and creating a whimsical and relaxing environment.   Pairing these textures with metallic lamps reflect the light, and compliment the modern design.  At Maple & Plum, we like to mix Interior Styles in a curated and thoughtful way, and htis bedroom is a great example of how we do that!

What do you think?  Is this space you'd like to come home to?
